Following another busy year dealing with countless car collisions and minor bingles across the state whilst helping thousands of Victorian motorists get back on the road, Sheen Group were thrilled our Bayswater and Bulleen locations tied to win the Best Body Repairer award at this year’s prestigious VACC (Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce) Industry Awards!
Our big wins were a direct result of the expert judging panel recognising our dedication to delivering comprehensive, responsive customer care as well as our technical expertise in repairing vehicles with even the most serious damage and bringing them back to roadworthy condition.
Held at the glamorous Crown Palladium Ballroom in Melbourne on the evening of Saturday 23 June, the award ceremony also coincided with VACC’s Centenary anniversary, bringing together professional tradespeople from across Victoria’s automotive sector.
Whilst the Sheen team were amongst those who left the event with souvenirs in our hands, everybody arrived as one big group in celebration of the vital, if somewhat low key, role our industry plays in keeping this state moving!
The award categories: Sheen Group recognised for going the extra mile
In total, Sheen Group sites were shortlisted for awards across two distinct categories for the 2018 VACC Industry Awards. Whilst nominations are open to any VACC accredited financial member and submitted through the body’s online portal, the shortlist for each category and the winners themselves are decided by a panel of senior VACC staff, with independent oversight from external standards expert Mr. Rob Stawell.
The categories where Sheen Group were recognised for going that extra mile include:
- Best Body Repairer – Passenger Vehicle (4 Stores)
- Best General Member Business (Large Business)
Focusing on the body of the vehicle, this award category covers the labour intensive process of restoring its frame damaged in a road accident back to roadworthy condition.
This can range from dealing with minor collisions that cause only superficial dents and scratches, up to more serious accidents that require physical replacements to parts of the vehicle’s structure that have been damaged beyond repair
Given that a vehicle’s body (or frame) acts as a skeleton and is therefore essential to its integrity, successful body repair (also referred to as 'collision repair' or 'smash repair') can mean the difference between getting your car safely back on the road or being completely written off.
With expertise in vehicle body repair dating back to 1969, Sheen Group demonstrated outstanding work across four of our 26 panel beating workshops in Victoria, impressing the VACC judging panel on a range of strict criteria which covered technical skills, customer service, operational efficiency, staff training and workplace health and safety.
Facing another 14 competitors in the automotive sector, our four shortlisted workshops were Sheen Panel Service in:
Taking a broader perspective, the second award category was focused on the overall operational efficiency, staff training and development, workplace health and safety practices and most importantly – the customer service delivery of individual VACC member businesses across the state.
Whilst smash repairs is a very labour intensive trade requiring the use of heavy machinery in noisy workshops, remembering the needs of our customers and dealing with them in a friendly, efficient manner where we carefully explain the body repair process, is vital to our ongoing success.
This is particularly relevant when you consider the fact many of our customers rely on their vehicles to do their jobs, not just get from A to B.
Facing off against 14 competitors, Sheen Group was able to successfully demonstrate to the VACC judging panel the value we bring to our customers everyday by responding to their repair claims in a timely manner, explaining the repair process in simple terms and ultimately getting their vehicles safely back on the road as soon as possible.
A big night for the Sheen team and a great achievement
Win or otherwise, the Sheen Group team were super excited to be shortlisted for two awards this year, so we sent over 20 of our hardworking team to the prestigious ceremony at Crown’s Palladium Ballroom, taking up two tables. It was also a great opportunity to get suited up for once, let our hair down and treat ourselves after another busy year labouring away in our workshops!
The Baywater and Bulleen stores both winning was just the icing on the cake and a great achievement which our Managing Director Martin Stone described as:
“Proof to our customers of Sheen Group’s deep technical expertise in the art of vehicle smash repairs, our commitment to superior customer service and our sharp focus on keeping your car on the road once it’s been safely restored to roadworthy condition”.
“It also sends a strong signal to apprentice panel beaters and painters that Sheen Group is an employer who will invest heavily in their training and development, allowing them to master their trade and shine.”
